The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India has released the official notification for the Census 2027.

• Timeline: The Census is scheduled to be conducted in 2027, following preparatory activities and field testing in the preceding months.
• Enumeration Method: For the first time, self-enumeration through an online portal will be available, allowing individuals to submit their information digitally. Traditional door-to-door enumeration will continue alongside.
• Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs): The Census will include detailed questions on disability, in line with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. This aims to improve the accuracy and comprehensiveness of disability data.
• Data Security: The notification emphasizes strict confidentiality and protection of personal information collected during the Census.
• Legal Basis: The Census is conducted under the Census Act, 1948. Participation is mandatory for all residents as per the Act.
